Construction output rose 1.8% in the Eurozone in July compared by June and grew by 1.1% across all 28 countries of the EU (EU28).
The initial estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union also found that construction grew by 3.1% in the Euro area and by 1.0% in the EU28 when compared to the previous year.
The increase of 1.8% in production in construction in the Euro area in July 2016, compared with June 2016, is due to building construction rising by 2.2% and civil engineering by 0.4%. In the EU28, building construction rose by 1.3% and civil engineering by 0.9%.
Among Member States with available data, the highest increases in production in construction were recorded in France (+4.8%), Slovenia (+2.0%), Spain (+1.9%) and Germany (+1.8%), and the largest decreases in Slovakia (-11.0%), Hungary (-3.2%) and Bulgaria (-1.4%).
In terms of the annual comparison, the increase of 3.1% in the Euro area is due to building construction rising by 3.2% and civil engineering by 2.9%. In the EU28, the increase of 1.0% is due to building construction rising by 1.8%, while civil engineering fell by 2.7%. The highest increases in production in construction were recorded in Spain (+12.0%), Sweden (+10.0%) and France (+3.3%), while the largest decreases were observed in Slovakia (-23.3%), Hungary (-17.6%) and Poland (-15.1%).
